President’s Message

It is an honor to serve as your president and to work alongside Superintendents who care deeply about Alaska’s kids, schools, and communities. Our theme for this year is All In for Alaska’s Kids. All in means showing up, standing together, and making courageous decisions on their behalf. It means listening to students, families, educators, partners, and communities. It means advocating for the people, resources, and conditions every school needs to succeed.

Alaska’s school districts span vast distances and serve communities with distinct cultures, languages, strengths, and needs. Our local realities may differ, but our responsibility is shared. Every child, regardless of where they live, deserves an excellent education, meaningful relationships, and a future filled with possibility.

Fulfilling this shared responsibility requires us to build on what is working while confronting the challenges before us. Alaska’s schools are places of innovation, connection, culture, resilience, and opportunity. At the same time, student attendance, academic achievement, educator retention, rising costs, and unpredictable funding demand our attention and collective leadership. As leaders, we have a responsibility to tell the story of public education in Alaska. We must be honest about where improvement is needed, recognize progress, elevate effective practices, and celebrate the students and educators who inspire us every day.

This year, I invite each of us to consider what being all in looks like in our leadership. It may mean reaching across district lines to share a promising practice. It may mean listening to a perspective we have not fully understood. It may mean standing together when our collective leadership matters most. Above all, it means keeping kids at the center of every conversation and every decision.

ASA is strongest when we learn from one another, support one another, and lead together. I look forward to strengthening those connections and advancing our shared commitment to Alaska’s kids. Thank you for your leadership, your partnership, and your service.
